Another sunny day

This is Monday the last day of August in the year 2009. Tomorrow starts September which Lew says has the most hurricanes. At least, the shuttle Discovery got off the ground and should be at the space station by now. The kids should be back in school learning and staying away from the beaches on regular basis. My friend Dick lives in an apartment with a pool. He is glad when the kids go back to school because he has more time to himself in the pool. He doesn't like to share the pool with some screaming kids. Speaking of kids, we now have neighbors across the street moving into the rental house. The lights go on across the street. There were some young women cleaning yesterday. Maybe today the people with the little toddler will move in. I think this would be cool! Today is garbage day, but not until the sun comes up. I want to be sure the raccoons don't get into the garbage. I think it is going to be another sunny day. Enjoy the weather!

Remembering the hermit crabs

Last night's dinner was spaghetti. Mom also made a dessert which was a graham cracker crust line on the bottom with bananas, sugar free vanilla pudding, lite cool whip and little cherries on top. I was amazed by the numbers of hermit crabs I saw while taking pictures yesterday, behind the old Winn Dixie building. They lined the shoreline like little invaders taking over. I dare not walk barefoot that would be touchier. The claws look mean and could do major damage to tender feet. Some people would keep hermit crabs in fish tanks. There is a novelty store which gives away hermit crabs for free. Mom thought this was an interesting picture and she thought it was taken along the ocean shoreline. I told her it was in back of the old Winn Dixie. She was still amazed. I wonder what the hermit crabs eat? They must feast on something that comes in abundance.

Burning the midnight oil

I was busy watching the midnight or minute before midnight launch of the space shuttle Discovery. I am glad they got into space. I did see lightening off in the distance. I also got bug bit on my feet and ankle areas. At least I wasn't over there at Brevard in the sea crowd of people stuck in traffic trying to get back to Orlando. What a mess! I wouldn't have the patience for the stand still traffic. We had baked flounder with corn on the cob. The corn was a bit tough. Mom thinks this was old corn. Mom goes to the farmer's market tomorrow. Hopefully she will pick up some mushrooms we can use to make spaghetti. I bought the sauce at Food Lion and the brand name is "Inspirations." I got the tomato and basil flavor which I will balance it out with some oregano. This is the midnight launch of Discovery. They made a nice trip into space. I also heard the roar of the engines afterwards. I thought it was neat.

Friday is here

I haven't even looked outside. I only know it is nice and cool inside. It makes me think more of the winter months than the hot Summer which we are suppose to be in Fall. Friday seems to come so quickly. I have my doubts about the shuttle taking off tonight. The weather has been so unpredictable. The rains come in the evening and I don't know if they will even clear out by midnight. The launch is a minute before midnight. I don't know what is on the menu for dinner this evening. I only hope it is good. I like Lew's description of his big breakfast. It is like he is inviting everyone over to share in his bountiful feast.

Thursday morning

Lunch was chicken noodle soup and dinner was cream of chicken on buttermilk biscuits. Today, mom says we have a lot of chicken leftover for sandwiches, but I don't know if that will carry us through dinner. Today is the last day my sister Glendon gets to play at home. Tomorrow she goes back to work for half a day and puts in full days on Saturday and Sunday. I am pretty sure she won't be catching the shuttle launch tonight after midnight if it goes off. She wants her beauty sleep to be in a outdoors work mode. The coffee just warms up my insides. It is kind of like crawling under a blanket of coffee. This is kind of a weird analogy, but it is true. I taste it with every sip of coffee and feel it when the warm feeling covers me from head to toe. Have you ever pressed the panic button without knowing what you are worried about? I woke up in the dark and felt my big toe had something in it, which I though I might have somehow stumbled onto a staple and it went into my big toe. This is what I imagined without looking at my toe. I felt around my toe with my hand and discovered the staple was really just a loose toe nail hanging on to the end of my toe which I threw in the trash. The mystery was solved and life got back to normal.

Middle of the week

I was saying to myself "Mr. Spoon meet Mr. Tapioca" as I ate a couple of bite of cold refrigerated tapioca pudding. This was before I turned on the computer and found out that "Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy" had died from brain cancer. At least the shuttle was kept on the ground because something broke in the refueling process. Someone was careful enough to say wait until things look a bit clearer. Yesterday was Lew's birthday and according to Mary they went to "Cracker Barrel" for lunch. The pictures are coming in very slow to my computer, but I hope he had a great time. I wonder if he got some red velvet cake?

The shuttle was scrubbed due to rain

I got up around 1:20 and learned from the television, the rain was the reason the shuttle did not leave the ground. This saved me from peaking outside in hopes of seeing a shuttle take off with the engines lit like a bright light. The astronauts could crawl back into a regular bed and sleep on earth until they try again tonight. I hope they get a good sleep and warm strong coffee to drink. It is nice to see the surfers enjoy the waves. There should be more wave action coming be this weekend. Another disturbance is coming towards Florida. This one would be named Danny, if the winds build up to tropical.

No light on across the street

Today the trash cans across the street got brought in by the guy who maintains the property. He also place a for rent sign out in the front yard. Tonight, it is pitch black across the road. The limo is gone for good. The only thing which remains is my picture of the limo. Mom and I went to the Frozen Gold ice cream shop. The dining room was closed, but they still served food from the outside window. Mom got a small chocolate cup of ice cream which I had two bites. I ordered a hot dog which came with mustard, sweet pickles and onions. I enjoyed the hot dog because someone else fixed it. I took this picture earlier in the day when the weather was nicer. I like the trace of white on the underside of the pelican's wings. I wondered if this was a certain breed of pelicans or if this white line on the wings is stardard on all pelicans?

What is going on?

The light is on across the street under the carport, but it looks very empty. The house looks abandoned. I can only hope for new renters that can afford the thousand dollars it cost to rent there. Someone maybe with kids that would be lively and brighten up the street. Someone that would go trick or treating on October 31 when the rest go to parties. I just want to see some life and character generated from the house. Today is garbage day and maybe Fall. There was a rumor saying Summer was over. The kids have all gone back to school. Could this be true? I hope I can feel a little Fall in the air. This would be nice for a change.

The last day of summer

We did not get down to the beach, but we watched lots of good Bonanza. My sister would think that was awesome. It turns out our neighbors across the street with the occasional limo is moving out of the house. This house has been a rental for a very long time. The last owner who lived at the house passed away. The renters end up moving just when you get use to them being there. I have been enjoying a small sugar free chocolate pudding cup. We had barbecue pork with corn on the cob and a baked potato half. I heard the kids in Orange County go back to school tomorrow. I haven't heard about Volusia, but I am sure it is either happening now or will in the near future. I have had a lot of ice water over the summer months to stay cool. I look forward to my cup of coffee in the morning. This is my quiet time to reflect and write, if I can think of what to write about. It looks like another rain storm coming so it will be raining pretty soon.

Early Riser

I woke up very early and would have been able to see the launch of Discovery, if it were Sunday morning. However, the launch doesn't come until Tuesday. I will probably sleep through it and see the replays on the regular news when I get up. Our neighbor across the street had her outside light off earlier in the evening. I was always use to it being on. Mom kind of liked the light being on. We both thought maybe the neighbor moved. However, I took me laser pen outside and was playing with it around her oak trees. I discovered the truck she drives was in the carport. I figured their power bill must have been way too high, but I checked this morning and their carport light is on. Plus, the car is gone. I figure she must have a job she does overnight. She would have a limo sitting in her driveway every once in a while. Maybe she is a limo driver. I would call this a lucky guess. This is a picture of my mom's friends who now live in New Jersey. George Melloan use to work for the "Wall Street Journal." Joan Melloan use to be an Indiana Reporter. She also served as an Editor. George is scheduled to have a book published in November and Joan is in the process of writing her book. This picture was taken awhile back when I had my swing. I briefly talked with Joan yesterday and she said the temperature was in the 90's like it is in Florida.

Weekend has arrived

I was looking for wave action from Hurricane Bill, but did not see much. The television caught more with the surfers, than I saw with my own eyes. They did not shoot from New Smyrna Beach. Instead, the television surfing scenes were filmed at Cocoa Beach in Brevard County. I also found the day to be excessively hot. The heat was a kind of stagnate sweltering sauna. I just wanted to hit the escape button and drop the temperature about 20 degrees. Lunch was a chicken dinner at the Beacon and dinner was Salmon. Today maybe the waves will be bigger than they were yesterday. I could only imagine. The surfers would have the best time catching the waves. I can also imagine sailboats on the water, but I don't think it will happen any time soon.

Power went out

It is miserable when the power goes out. I realize there is no power in the refrigerator. The fans don't work. The air goes off and the heat increases to an unbearable level. This happened this morning when a transformer blew out and the Utilities had to come out and fix it. Mom and I spent a couple of hours traveling to the bank and the North entrance on Flagler where I took pictures of a couple of shrimp boats out on the glassy water. People were enjoying the water and there was a nice breeze . We did not stay too long and had lunch at the Beacon. We went on to the Little Drug store where mom got some Lutein. I waited by the car, until she came back and we went home. The air was back on and the frig. works. I got the fan spinning over the computer and mom took off again for Publix before the afternoon storms. I did not see the big waves, but I don't know what we will have for dinner. I do know my sister is home. She only put in a half day today and she can recharge for tomorrow and the next day. If we do have the pork chops, I will enjoy them.

The big waves are coming

The weatherman has promised some big waves this weekend due to Hurricane Bill. I will want to go down to the shoreline and check to see, if I can see big waves. This will be my entertainment for the weekend. These pigeons know the car from any other cars. They swarm around it before the car gets parked. The man and women come with lots of bird feed which the pigeons love to eat. It is a meal they expect to get from these people. Glendon, my sister goes back to work today. She only puts in a half a day on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are full days of work. Mom is thinking about getting pork chops. It may end up as dinner. I made a big bunch of tapioca last night and put Agave sweetener in it. I used the minute tapioca and it turned out pretty good.

What a typical relaxing time at the beach

These two people are just relaxing at the water's edge. I would imagine the waves rolling in on their feet. Maybe they have something cool to drink. I wonder if this is they are on vacation or if they are regulars just spending a day at the beach? The weather was this nice yesterday when we were suppose to have 70 percent chance of rain. Today is only 60 percent chance of rain. I did not get to see the boat wreck on the beach. Only on the television set. I did not see a boat out on the water. The waves are not to so chopping until this weekend due to Hurricane Bill.

Advice to a neighbor

The surf is bigger do to the Hurricane Bill and Tropical Anna whatever status she ends up. Our state was promised some rain out of Anna today. Yesterday it was the people inside the state which received the rain. The coastal people like me did not receive any rain. Last night a neighbor called with a problem I could not help her. Her daughter discovered a mouse running around her apartment room in back of the house. This lady said they thought they could trap the mouse under the hot tub in the back. Last I heard, a future son in law was coming to the rescue from Edgewater. This incident happened after 10 at night. I don't know the results of the outcome and I don't know what advice I would give her. I had no mouse traps like she requested. Plus, mom knew we didn't have any mouse traps. I mildly suggested poisoning some cheese. However, I am sure Wayne the guy from Edgewater will come up with a creative solution. What would you have suggest?

Tuesday's plans

What exotic dish do we fix for dinner? After a night of Bertolli, there is a big question mark on what will be for dinner? We do have a small leftover dish of chili. I thought we might have a couple of pork chops ,but I don't see it in the meat tray. I do see a big slice of ham. I think fried cube steak always sounds good with some mashed potatoes. Mom may think more in the lines of beef stew. I don't know if she is in the mood for fish, but if it is scallops, salmon, or some Mahi Mahi might be on the menu. We haven't had any good flounder in ages. I took a picture of this cloud because I thought it reminded me of a dog or maybe even a pig. The more I look at it the more I would say " a dog." The eyes are big as the Disney dog character"Pluto." The nose looks like a small white light bulb. The ears flop over the way our dog "Buster's ears" flopped over. I bet if the cloud dog could bark it would let out one big sounding bark that would shake the earth like a sonic boom. Yesterday was trash day, but today I think is hang out the clothes on the clothes line and avoid snakes. I hope the heat isn't as intense as it was yesterday. I got overheated and had to throw some water on my face and hair just to cool down.

Fun on the beach

I got to see the Delta two rocket launch early this morning. The sky had a streak of white light like a lighted cloud traced like a kid trying to draw the moon. I am sure the different colors was due to the sunrise. Tonight it is hazy with nothing looking delightful about the evening. Sometimes you can have an ideal sunset, but it doesn't look that way tonight. Yesterday, I saw a small snake when I was taking down the clothes off the clothes line. The snake was lined up against the fence and I was hoping it would go through one of the grooves in the fence to the neighbor's yard. I didn't see the snake today, but I kept a eye on the ground to be sure. I saw this roadster at the beach when I was trying to look for boats on the water to take pictures. However, I found the water was boat free, but this picture was the center of attention by someone with a video camera filming every ounce of the car. This reminds me of the car in the television series" The Munsters." Dinner was one of those Bertolli bag dinners. It was pretty tasty with lots of garlic, spinach bits, meat slices, mushroom bits, and macaroni.

Sunday trip to Osteen

Yesterday, mom and I went to Osteen on a honey run. We needed to refill our honey supplies. However, we only came back with three jars of honey. I now know how Yogi Bear must feel when he doesn't have a good supply of honey. We stopped at a gas station Circle K in Osteen which seemed to have reasonable price for gas. We claimed our spot which was pump number five. The place got very diverse first with African American young women and men with the rap music booming from their radios. Then comes a big herd of motorcycles. It was like something out of the movie "Easy Rider." The roar of the motorcycle engine sounded like an angry mosquito with a lot together. They intimidated the African American youth by piling their angry motorcycles next to their rap music and cool Honda street cars. Some of the riders settled on the side until the regular traffic got out of the way. I noticed they were wearing dark vest with the Logo "Latin American Motorcycle Association." This was the club for Latin Americans. The club took over the gas station and everyone else was happy to leave. When mom and I picked up the honey from the house just around the corner, we could still hear the roar of the motorcycle engines. After we picked up the honey, we went on to the local vegetable stand where I could get some big giant onions. Upon our arrival, the girl watching the stand was stretched out across the table with her ipod planted in her ears. She had the fan blowing and it took her a few minutes to realize she had company. This was a golden opportunity for a picture which I did not bring the camera because the weather was way too hot. Mom and I picked up a few vegetables and came home.

Remembering the yellow flowers

The Osteen bridge is getting such a makeover. I doubt I will recognize it when it is finished. The two lane bridge will become a four lane bridge. The design of the bridge will probably provide less access to the view of the flat lands around in the area. I consider the site of a field of yellow flowers to be so rare. The only way I could take the picture was from my moving pickup truck. The traffic was so heavy there wasn't time to pull over to get out of the truck to take a picture of the surrounding area. Most of the time the flowers are gone. It is sometimes used for grazing for cattle. In 2004, the series of hurricanes about sent water over the roads. It was truly borderline on that issue. There needs to be places where people can get outside their vehicle and observe and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area. They have this at Paines Prarie in Gainesville. I believe it is called an observation deck.

The perfect job

I did not realize how relaxed this lifeguard was until I saw the picture. I thought I was seeing two people from a distance. However, what I thought was the other person was actually his legs. The lifeguard's posture was a reflection of the day. The beach was pretty care free of trouble. No one was getting shark bit. The big lifeguard tower did say over the loud speakers for three swimmers to come in. I think they eventually did after looking like they were struggling to tread water. There was a hamburger/hot dog stand that carried a couple of American flags pulled by a white Ford pickup truck. I took this picture in the morning before the storms came in the afternoon. The pattern here is the storms come around four in the afternoon and are done around six or seven in the evening.

Trash day was successful

I got the trash out before eight in the morning. The trash people came right at eight in the morning. They seemed very early. This picture is of a small golf cart light vehicle with a flashing orange light caring little trash cans and picking up garbage left on the beach. This guy just zooms down the beach. At a distance, this vehicle looks like something foreign and official. However, the closer you look at it , the more familiar this vehicle turns out. There was a nice sea breeze when I took this picture. The sun was setting and some people were going home. However, some stayed and some new people arrived

This dog is named Bella

She looks like a tough pit bull dog, but her owner said this is an old English bull dog. He said the previous owner was his female roommate which he misses very much. She left him the dog. The current owner says she is very friendly to everyone ; except for, other guys. This picture reminds me of the movie where '' Gloria Swanson" the aging movie star from way back when says" I'm ready for my close up Mr. Deville." Bella the dog to me is like the dog version of "Gloria Swanson." Bella seemed much loved by her current owner and was whisked away onto the beach for a long strolling walk without a care or threat of any beach patrol ruining her Oscar winning evening.

Happy Day

This is a sunset picture from last night. It was taken on the North end of the beach past the North Flagler entrance. I can not believe it is already the middle of the week. The days are going by so fast. I went outside early this morning and it wasn't too buggy. Plus, the air was a bit cool. The Summer season must be winding down. Brevard has sent their kids back to school. Pretty soon, the other counties will do the same. Dinner was a shrimp salad. I don't know what it will be today. There were no boats on the water when mom and I viewed the ocean last night. I hope today will be a nice day with good things happening like me getting my CD from Borders.

Tickling the Ivories

The expression "Tickling the Ivories" refers to piano playing. When I got out of the doctor's office yesterday at the Oncology Center at Bert Fish Hospital there was an electronic keyboard with no one playing the keys and asking for volunteers to play the keyboard. The electronic keyboards have everything musical attached like organs, drums background music and fast paced rhythms. It is like making a sandwich and stacking everything on top of it. It had been years, since I have really tackled the keyboard of a piano. I am one of those people a piano teacher dislikes because I like to "play by ear." This expression means I can listen to a piece of music and pickup the melody and play it without reading sheet music. A well trained musician can read sheet music and play every note exact and keep good rhythm according to the written notes. I didn't want to be well trained. My head was full of opportunities and play at the age I took piano lessons. However, I did have fun "tickling the ivories" at the hospital. I was sad to leave, but I was fresh out of songs I remembered how to play. I know I would be good with the Christmas music, but it was much too early to play those types of songs. I end with the joke from the Victor Borga" special on PBS regarding why his piano keys were yellow. He said " the elephant who contribute the ivory had cavities."

Enjoying nice weather

The tropical systems are finally churning out in the Atlantic. The weatherman sort of hinted around like we might get some tropical stuff by the weekend. I love the blue sky we have been experiencing. There is a deepness about the blue sky like it could go on and on. Both my dad and my Aunt Jean had piercing blue eyes that seemed so unique for this brown eyed girl. This picture was taken from a moving car over the South Bridge. You can not see much of Inter coastal waterway, but you can see the blue sky with some white clouds kind of hanging off in the distance.

Starting a new week

Last night was fried chicken with mashed potatoes and chicken gravy. Mom has the makings for spaghetti, but I don't know when we will eat it this week. This is the one gardenia flower, I found not too long ago. Mom finally picked it after it started turning brown. It is now almost gone. It looks like a burned piece of tissue paper. Lots of chores like garbage, putting away clothes from the clothes line, putting away the clean dishes out of the dishwasher. I am sure we will be doing some other things today what we can squeeze in. I guess I can talk about that tomorrow. Good news with the eye doctor is no glaucoma and he doesn't want to see me for a year.

Good Appetite

The new Julia Child's movie which stars Meryl Streep is not going to win an academy award, although it is drawing in lots of crowds. Meryl Streep has lots of fans, but she is still an actress. If the story line is flat, no actress is going to change the poor outcome of the production. Julie the young worker challenges herself to cook so many recipes out of the Julia Child's cookbook in so many days. The story line bounces back to when Julia and her husband Paul lived in France. Julia went to cooking school and tackled translating French cooking recipes into recipes an American housewife could cook for her husband. The other plot is Jule working in a dead end job does something she really loves to do and that is to cook. She writes a blog about her challenges with the Julia Child's recipes. There was one graphic part which I thought could have been kept out of the movie. This was when Julie was watching with her husband an imitator of Julia cut her finger while trying to fix chicken and it bled all over the place. This was suppose to be a spoof, but I thought it was in poor taste.

Home for the garbage

This is the Samsula landfill located on State Road 415. We passed this spot on the way home from Orlando,Florida. Fortunately, there was no overpowering odor. It must have been still outside and the only wind was from the movement of the car. I believe this is where our garbage goes because it is the closest landfill to where I live. It also seems to be one of the most clean from the outside looking in. There have been days in the past when the smell from the landfill was so overpowering. Even with the air conditioning, the smell would penetrate into the pickup truck I was driving. It took awhile to get the smell completely gone. I wonder how the workers can stand the smell? Does there sense of smell disappear from working there? How about the people who live around the landfill are there days when they can not stand the smell?

Going back to New Smyrna Beach

These two motorcyclist passed us on State Road 415 on the way home. I thought this is such a cool picture because they look so open and free on the road with no restrictions from the police. I wonder if they were heading to Daytona. I am sure there is more for them to do rather than going to New Smyrna. It is true New Smyrna opens its doors and puts on a friendly face for Biketoberfest and Bike week. However, I don't see many bikes outside of those dates. Most people I see are driving cars or pickup trucks. Even the eye doctor in Ocoee abandoned his motorcycle due to the rain. He doesn't like driving through extreme rainy conditions that Ocoee and Orlando has been under. I saw some Golden Rod in Sanford after turning on to State Road 415. This is a sure sign of fall coming. Golden Rod is very noticeable during the fall. Plus, I think I will miss the changing of the rain tree leaves from yellow flowers to pink pods on the way home. Silver Star Road had it's rain trees which are very fallish looking.

Changing Times

I couldn't resist a close up of yesterday's tiki guy picture. Today Mom and I venture to Orlando to go see the eye doctor in Ocoee. I don't know where we will have lunch yet, but I hope it is some place good. I like to identify people now that were in the old television series. There were two the other day I reconized from "Gunsmoke." Will Geer who was the Grandpa on the "Waltons." Rober Pine who was the Sergent on the old series "Chip." Plus, he was Zack's dad in one episode of "Saved by the Bell." Sandra Bullock from the movie "The Proposal" was the first and only "Bionic Girl." I saw Karen Grassle on Gunsmoke who was the mom on "Little House on the Parie." She now does commercials on redesigned bathtubs. Lindsay Wagner the "Bionic Women" does commercials on the sleep number bed. Lee Major's does commercials on his Bionic hearing aid. My mom worked with a lady whose husband was a body guard for Lee Majors. I wonder where Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake will end up in twenty years. Sometimes change can be interesting.

Stay away from the biting bugs

The bugs called no see-ums were really bad last evening. I got bit on the scalp and all over my face and neck. They left a stinging bite and a welt like a mosquito, but they are the size of flees. Lots of times all I would see is little white specks flying around and presenting a danger to my well being. This is a picture of the artist with his creation. This reminds me of the big statues you would see on Easter Island. They would look like this, but in gigantic form. This was the only piece of sand artwork I found on the beach. There wasn't even a sand castle. Most people were in the water due to the biting bugs. We didn't stay long because of the bugs. I was so glad to get home and indoors. Mom and I watched "America's got talent" the results show. Mom also picked up on her way home the free KFC Grilled chicken dinners we had the vouchers to get.

What old television show did you like?

I was recalling the old shows, I use to watch like "Gilligan's Island." I also was a big fan of "Lost in Space and Star Trek classic." I liked the family adventures of the Robinsons on some distance alien planet. I liked how they would stick together and work out problems and everything turned out OK at the end of the show. In "Star Trek" I liked the go go boots the women wore with the shore dress outfits. I like how suave Captain Kirk was with the ladies. I liked the communicators and the phasers and the transporter. It was all a new and very cool concept. I also liked "Dark Shadows and Hogan's Heroes." I also liked "Dr. Who." I thought the music to "Dr. Who" was real cool. I also watched "Brady Bunch, I dream of Jeannie and Bewitched." I still see them on retro television channel. There seemed to be quite a few things I did see on television.

Boat ride

We had the rain storm come. It rained, lightening and thunder. The storm finished before I realized it was done. Our neighbor Pauline kept calling. I am not sure what reason she did. It was nice to hear from her because she has a pleasant voice. I wasn't sure what picture this was until now, I see it a bit larger. It looks like a nice little picture of a boat on the water with some tourist. I heard about the "Past time Princess" the name of the boat from New Smyrna Beach which was stuck out on the open water for fourteen hours. The boat had no power or water. One person got dehydrated and another didn't take the medication she was required to take. The owner is not giving refunds but offers another boat ride to the tourist. Would you take him up on the offer?

Leaning towards the fall weather

Last night belonged to "Andy Griffith." Opie singing "Old man Tucker" to Mr. Darling. He was a cute kid. Unfortunately, he grew up like so many other cute kids. I heard a friend of my mom talk about her Grand kids how much they have grown. The youngest is six and the oldest is twelve. The weather in Indiana is only in the 80's. I guess that beats in the 90's and buggy. I for one will be glad to see the kids go back to school and clear some of the traffic off the beaches. School takes care of the kids so many hours of the day and hopefully the kids come home educated. Maybe the weather will get a tiny bit cooler when the kids are in school. I could only hope.

Sunday morning

I spilled a bit of coffee on my night gown. I figure I will need to change it for a fresh new one. I just did and it feels much better. Meanwhile, my coffee is cooling down. It is sausage and biscuits today for breakfast and a meatloaf for dinner. This is the last day of the weekend my sister"Glendon" works at the University. She will be able to concentrate on her own animals which they will all love. Our neighbor Pauline's daughter Susan has to find someone to walk her dog. She is working 48 hours in a private home as a Certified Nursing Assistant helping a lady who had a stroke. I don't envy her or her dog. They seem to be in for some rough times ahead.

Chicken dinner this evening

Mom and I went to a chicken dinner held at the Coronado Methodist Church for the group Family Promise. This group helps homeless families find jobs and get into homes where they can be productive. The guy sitting across from mom and I named Richard burned his throat on the baked beans. He had a hard time eating the rest of his dinner and all he wanted to do was complain about how hot the meal was. He did get the sympathy from the females at the table including me, but he didn't seem to want to fix the problem by asking for some ice to cool down his throat. He did seem like a nice guy and his wife seemed nice also. Mom and I also encountered a friend from Oakland, Florida. She moved to Edge water and it was a rare occasion to see her. My mom got to speak with her more than I did, but at least we did get to see each other. The beach seemed to be filled full of people all day long. We couldn't find a parking spot anyplace near the shoreline. The park on the other side of the draw bridge was the only place where space was available. I could sit and take pictures of small boats and the New Smyrna Beach Taxi. I also got to take pictures of pelicans as they zoomed on by in formation down one way and back the other. They seemed to ride the wind currents and would occasionally dive in the water for a fish. Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, the pelican arose from the water with the most ungraceful poses. The feet flop, the wings full of water rising to a higher level of areodynamic splendor. The wing spreads out to annouce a wideness which says "I encompass everything around me." The turns are like a game of tag where one pelican would follow another. It is very rare they would break the cycle of a set pattern. As usual, I appreciate Pauline our neighbor for thinking about us. It was kind of her to invite mom and I. I enjoyed the dinner very much.
