Home on Sunday

I missed out on the Images Arts festival. The weather just wasn't the kind of fun weather I would want to be outside looking at painting. Plus, mom said it was packed and there was no parking spaces. I did see some good Bonanza and had a good meatloaf dinner with baked potatoes and sugar free cookies for dessert. My sister went to a Medieval festival where there was a human chess board and jousting. I will have to wait until morning to find out how she liked it. It was cool, windy and gray outside. I need a sunny day so I can hang out clothes on the clothes line.

Boating on the water

Dinner was hamburgers and dessert was tapioca pudding. I went to CVS to refill my prescriptions. I got back home before the rains came. It wasn't much of a rain. I was hoping for a good soaking. However, I did notice a little more green in the front yard. I stayed away from Images Art Festival. Mom said it was hard for anyone to find a parking spot. My guess this was a very popular day with the tourist. The art show is the place to go. I don't know if the guys in the picture ever got any fish, but they do look like they are having fun. I wonder if they brought the beer?

Movie to Avoid

The movie I saw at "The Beacon theater" was "When in Rome." This movie had no redeeming value as far as a good plot. There was four minor guy characters and one major guy character. Non had much in the way of personality development. One was an artist pretending to be an Italian artist who was really from New Jersey working another job. After the main, female character picks up several coins in a fountain in Rome. This guy falls in a love with her due to the fact, he tossed a coin into the fountain. The others suitors had similar experiences and react the same way "love sick." One was a Sausage king trying to recapture his romance feeling with his wife before she left him. This character was portrayed by "Danny Devito." Danny was a major star and I still considered him a major star acting in a walk on role. One was a male model who thought he was the center of the universe. One was a magician who was all show and no personality. The fourth personality turned out to be the Priest who married the main character's sister. The main character was named Beth and the guy she truly was interested in was Nick. Nick was the best man at her sister's wedding. The destructive events started with the braking of the vase at her sister's wedding. Nick and Beth finally marry at the end of the movie and do a little victory dance and get into a toy car that says "Just Married." The statement "The End" was the next message shown. "Anjelica Huston" had a walk in role as Beth's boss. She was another major star who deserved better. I guess stars are entitled to flops. This is just a movie bettered to be shelved.

Dinner on Thursday

The pork roast was real good. It took longer to cook, than I expected it. I had to put it back into the oven because there was still some pink inside. I wanted to be sure the meat was cooked all the way through. I also had a sweet potato and a small salad with cottage cheese on top. Our neighbor Laurel, joined mom and I for dinner. Laurel brought over some peanut butter cookies she made. There was plenty left over for leftovers. Tonight it is a struggle to find something good to watch on television. We are watching "The Office" for now.

Thoughts of the evening

I saw the sunset, at least the orange in the sky after the sun went down below the horizon line. I saw a plane gliding across the orange sky. The colors faded and it was time to come back inside. I saw a star towards the South East shining pretty bright. It was a time of reflection to ask questions like where do the hummingbirds go to sleep at night? What is going to happen to the space program? Am I going to listen to the "State of the Union" speech tonight? Dinner was spaghetti this evening and pork roast tomorrow night.

Wa ttching TV

The house boat on the river is still there. There was talk in the local paper that this would be removed because it was considered an eye soar. I saw my little hummingbird zooming around today from flower to flower and then flying away. Dinner tonight was beef stew and hot rolls. The beef stew was thick and good. Tonight is" American Idol" in LA. I am waiting for the big goof ups. I think this is what makes the show special. I still miss Paula from the last Idol. She was really apart of the Idol family.

Rounding out Monday

The second half of the day turned out real beautiful. I did not go out to sight see. Instead, I went to the grocery store to pick up a few items we needed. Tonight's dinner was mushroom burgers with toppings such as: onion, lettuce, tomato and ketchup. Plus, don't forget the mayonnaise. I also had some Frito's Scoops to go along with the mushroom burger. It made for a nice meal at home. The television helped to round off the day with entertainment.

Sunday night

I hope we do get some more rain to change the color of the grass back to a solid green. I saw the movie "Leap Year" for a second time with my mom. I still liked it just as much as the first. Mom fixed meatloaf and baked potato and salad for dinner. It was real good. The dishes are being washed in the dishwasher. This gives me time to play on the computer. I am featuring my flying Humming Bird picture on tonight's blog.

Saturday night

Dinner tonight was cube steak and fried potatoes. Also, there was broccoli and cauliflower. Our neighbor Pauline came home today from the hospital. Also our other neighbor Laurel got her hair permed at the beauty pallor. The day seemed nice and I hope tomorrow will be nice also. I hope my sister has a good day at work tomorrow and she comes home ready to spend the week with her animals.

Trip to the store

Where is the sound of reasonable when shopping for groceries? How can vegetables cost so much money? Mom told me to go to the store and buy a healthy dinner. I went and got a couple of sweet potatoes which I figured would run about two or three dollars. However, when I went to look at the price of corn on the cob it was something like $3.49 for a plastic wrapped package of four little chunks of corn on the cob. If I had placed the four chunks of corn together, it would equal only two full ears of corn. What gets me is that over the summer, I was paying two dollars for eight ears of corn from the same store. I looked at the asparagus and absorbed in the price. I saw snow peas that was covered in mostly plastic. It seems to me that I was being suckered into paying mostly for the cost of plastic verses the cost of the item. Where are the days when you could really shop for groceries and get a value for the buck? The vegetables would look plentiful when they came home. I bought two pieces of fish from the back of the store. One was Ma hi and the other was tuna. I knew they would turn out good. The cost was about thirteen dollars for both fish. Next was mom's Glucerna which she likes to drink. The cost is about nine dollars. I barely came under the wire about fifty one cents when checking out of the store. Dinner did turn out pretty good this evening. I guess it was mission accomplished.

Thursday at home

Thunderstorms are suppose to arrive later today. It looked real red up around Jacksonville on the radar. The porch has condensation which makes the porch cold and slimy. The dirt prints from the tennis shoes even show. Mom said the temperature was eighty degrees. This sounds like a good set up for thunderstorms. What we need is a good rain soaking to revive the charred brown looking yard. I am trying to make a hamburger casserole. I got yellow rice cooking and hamburger. Mom told me where a small can of peas was located. I only have to dig up a can of mushroom soup and bake in the oven, until it is done. Tomorrow should be a nicer day as far as the weather goes. The rain will go away.

Getting outdoors

I watched the ocean for dolphins and I could not spot one. I looked both left and right and non were around. I missed them traveling down the coast and me trying to guess where they would pop up. I like when they jumped the waves. It was almost like Marine land or Sea World watching the dolphins do the tricks. There were birds dropping like rocks from the sky. I suppose they were aiming for a fish dinner. They shared the ocean with a shrimp boat hanging off in the Northern distance. There were also four white sail boats. I don't know where the sail boats thought they were going, but it didn't seem like they move around much at all. There were sunbathers in their lounge chairs facing West to catch the setting sun. They looked as content as the pelicans gliding along on the calm water.

Tuesday nice weather

The weather has turned warmer, but in some shady spots there still is a bit of cool air. I went to Flagler around lunch time and took some pictures of the coast with pelicans, waves and people. I got a picture of a shrimp boat and a sail boat in the distance. I tried to get the dolphins who were playing along the coastline, but they avoided the camera. Dinner tonight was spaghetti. I got to watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza in the afternoon. I went to the store briefly in the evening and picked up some dessert that both mom and I could enjoy. The day was nice and the sun set rather quickly. I am hoping for one more day of nice weather.

Monday travel to Osteen and back home

This is a happier flower picture. The sunflower is the center piece in the kitchen. We made a honey run to Osteen to get some Gallberry honey for my coffee. We also picked up some cheap reading glasses from Dollar Tree. One thing I can say is the shape of the cheap glasses gives me a different look. It is no big loss if they break because they only cost a dollar. Mom made a roast tonight for dinner. We also had some broccoli and a salad.

Sunday watching the Golden Globes

I went with flowers this evening for a picture because our yard is so frost bitten. I hope later in spring the flowers and the yard will return to a green flowery garden of a yard. Dinner was Haddock fish fried with a half of a baked microwave potato. There was also broccoli and a salad. The Golden Globe awards are interesting to watch. The ladies in their long dresses are impressive. I liked seeing Sophia Loren. She is just as beautiful as she always was in the past movies. Even one have a great Sunday.

Saturday at home

This is an old favorite picture of mine. I like the lizard's yellow eyes and distinctive skin. The lizard mainly comes out in the warmer weather and helps keep the bug population down. Our grass has suffered much freezer burn. Plus, our plants have suffered much freezer burn. It is hard to wait on cutting stuff back, but the experts are saying this is the thing to do. Dinner tonight was black beans and yellow rice. Mom also included some broccoli and cauliflower mixture. Saturday was not one for sunshine. It was cool and clammy. The floor of the porch had water droplets on it. The weather was better in the house. This is where I stayed most of the day. I only briefly peaked outside. Television was great for sleeping by. I would curl up on the couch and be out like a light for an hour or two. I even used the cell phone to call a couple of friends. Saturday was made for staying home.

Friday, January 15, 2010

Friday is here

Major earthquakes are pretty rare in this side of the country. I heard that Haiti was on a fault line. Plus, the buildings had no building code. The houses are considered shacks. Geology is a very interesting subject. Tidal waves are always a possibility after an earthquake, but fortunately this did not happen. Florida has it's own set of problems like hurricanes and sinkholes. With all the bad, Haiti is getting help from the outside world. At least something is better than nothing. Dinner was chicken from Food Lion and a bake potato cooked in the microwave. I will hunt for a sugar free pudding cup that is chocolate in the frig.

Having an opinion

I watched a online video called "The ghost of Tennessee Ernie Ford." It takes pot shots at the Democrats from the President on down through Congress. I was curious to see what it was all about, but I was disappointed that something would be made in such poor taste. If the subject is true or not is not the issue, but to generate a lack of support for community and government is just plain sad. Now there is terrible destruction down in Haiti and everyone is trying to support helping the people out. It is good they are getting the support, but sad it takes something terrible to bring people around. We are now out of the super cool weather. I hope the clothes dry on the line. Chili is on the menu for dinner.

It is nice on the beach

I am extremely tired this evening. I cleaned part of the house with a vacuum. I hung up clothes and took part of the load down. Dinner was a tuna casserole. It was pretty good. I went with my mom to Publix and picked up some sugar free cookies. I also got the sample food from "Apron" the food stand. I was first in line. Mom also picked up a few items from Publix. It is nice to see the wintry weather warm up just a bit. I know this will draw out a lot more people to the beach. It doesn't seem that many people come to the beach when the weather is cold. However, they come and take up space on the beach hoping to leave with nice Florida tans. Instead, the tourist end up with sun burns.

Boat picture

I went picture taking on the North end of the beach. There wasn't much in the way of people there. There was seagulls huddled in a group all together. One seagull rank out a single "awk" on a regulated cycle. It was like he was trying to imitate a clock. There was also an oversized Basset Hound dog which was an interesting sight to see. I wasn't ready to get a good picture of the dog. My prime interest was to get boats on the ocean. There were three which seemed to hang out on the South side of Daytona. This picture was one of the boats that stood out in the morning sunlight.

Monday movie

I went to the movies and saw "Leap Year." It was a nice romantic comedy. Amy Adams, the leading lady's, acting is similar to Maureen O' Sullivan. There is a sense of Independence in the fiery red headed women. They both get handsome men at the end of the movie. Dinner tonight is baked chicken with a small half of potato. We got the news on and it is about a sink hole. Bummer, bad news for somebody. I hope they have plans to find another place to live. The sun is about gone, but it is nice at home. I hope everyone is nicely tucked away for the evening.

Looking for warmer weather

Dinner was chicken and noodles homemade. It was served with a little bit of mashed potatoes. I enjoy it all. The food was good. The cookie dessert was a disaster because mom and I tried making sugar free oatmeal cookies from home ingredients. It did not work, It always seemed to be lacking something to give it the extra zing. Tonight mom is with the television and I am on the computer. Tomorrow morning will be the last of the big freeze weather. The rest of the week will be a bit warmer. The weather seems to be getting better with each day.

Saturday, January 09, 2010

Saturday Evening

Dinner was pizza tonight. One half one brand the other half another brand. Both pizzas cooked in the oven. When they were done mom and I ate them. The snow has stopped, but the weather is still cool. I heard 27 degrees this evening and tomorrow evening still cool. My sister worked all day today and will work all day tomorrow. She will have next week through Thursday off from work.

Friday, January 08, 2010

This is the night of the snow flakes

According to the weatherman, snow flakes are possible. I got this picture of the hummingbird. It was being there at the right place at the right time and so was I. Tonight was pork chops and mashed potatoes. Mom also cooked some broccoli heads which I ate pretty fast. Today was minus the sun. Walgreen's was busy and I did look at the Coast on the Flagler entrance. It was getting cold because the ends of my fingers started to sting. Now the challenge is to watch something good on television. Everybody stay warm.

Gators are watching

Dinner tonight was meatloaf with a baked potato and a salad. Today, I checked out OK at the doctor's office and will return in six months. The sun went down quickly and so did my energy level. I am hoping to boost my energy level with some green tea. The big football game is this evening between Dallas and Alabama's "Crimson Tide." I hope Dallas wins. It will be a sweet small victory for the Gators who lost to Alabama.

Movie and Dinner

I went to see "Avatar" in three D. I failed to pick up my three D glasses when I went into the theater. I had a big bag of buttered popcorn and large diet coke. I didn't want to move from my chair. I found my trusty dollar tree glasses in my purse which I only paid a dollar. When I worked in Orlando, I had one pair of glasses and got a spare pair. The one pair had a lens which fell out. It kept falling out and would not stay within the frame. I threw it out. It was useless with one lens. I did try to use the one lens, but it didn't do the job. My spare pair lasted, so long after I left my my job. I placed it on my face and it worked OK through more than half of the movie. However, I was slouched in my chair when all of a sudden one lens pops out in the darken theater. I believe it landed under the chair of the row in front of me. However, I was not sure. I watched the rest of the movie without the glasses and stay until the house lights came up in the theater. I did not see the lens. I thought" at least no one will step on the lens." I left with my one lens glasses in my purse waiting to be thrown out. "Avatar" should win an award for special effects. I thought they were really great. The acting was very good as well. Dinner was great when I got home. I had stuffed peppers.

It is a cold evening

I drank some green tea which should have kept me awake. It did not. Instead, I sacked out on the couch in the living room watching some show that I have forgotten the contents. Have you ever fallen asleep in the middle of a show and forgot what it was about? This boat was making pretty good time zipping across the water. It kicked up a lot of wave action and was hard to get a clear picture. I wonder how fast the boat was going? Mom and I haven't taken the Christmas lights down yet, but we are trying to get through the cold spell. My sister has it about 10 degrees cooler where she lives. She has buckets of water in the back yard to tell how frozen the ground got. She takes the cold a lot better than mom and I. She ventures out in the mornings to feed her horses and also feeds them in the evening. She also feeds the rest of her animal family. Tomorrow will be the sixth of January and will be the middle of the week. I am looking forward to Friday when the new movies open up. I will have to look them up on the Internet to see what is playing.

Monday the start of the week

I got to see my favorite television show "Cake Boss." This show is shown on TLC. I love the fabulous cakes that are created. It truly is a work of art. I bet it cost a pretty price. Dinner was leftover vegetable stew and salad. Dessert was an English muffin. This cold weather keeps me pretty well housebound. I do like that it makes the air so crisp, but my ideal weather is between 60 and 80 degrees. This is where I feel at my best. It isn't too cold or too hot. I also hope the power stays on. Back in 1989 when there was a Christmas freeze, the power went out over at the beach. Mom and I really froze inside, because we weren't prepared with blankets. I hope this year will be good to us. We need all the help we can get.

Sunday at home

The sky was gray today with a touch of cool damp air. Mom and I stayed home with the television. The breakfast was sausage gravy with English muffins and an egg. Lunch was leftover vegetable soup and dinner was baked chicken with stuffing. Dessert was homemade apple pie made with Agave sweetener. The apple pie had Cinnamon, Agave, and butter inside the cut up apples. Mom topped the pie crust with a milk coating, so the crust would brown. I did water the yard grass this morning. Each yard zone got an hour's time worth of lawn watering. I wonder how cold the weather will really get tonight? The weatherman says it would be low thirties for the next week.

Saturday, January 02, 2010

Cool Saturday

What happens when you win a game? What is the next step? My step was to abandoned the game after being told to either register on line or loose your tokens. I really did not want to register my personal information just to play a game on line. The cold weather drives the late night munchies out in both mom and I. I finished off the leftover tapioca and mom ate a Fiber One yogurt. I am thinking about toasting some raisin toast. I think this would be a great way to finish off the evening. We haven't taken our lights down yet, but this will be coming pretty soon.

Where is the sun?

It is a brand new year and the first day of the brand new year. It is grey and rainy outside. Today is the football game day for a lot of college teams. The weatherman promises us better weather later this afternoon. I truly look forward to it. I do enjoy the warmer weather at the beach. When mom and I went to my sister's place over the Christmas holidays ,the weather was real cold. I was cold in her house and out of her house. The warmest place was burning house trash in the trash barrel. I did this task early in the morning as the sun came up. The sunrises were different in the country than over here at the beach. The mist from the water from the wet pasture would rise next door and the sun rays would trickle in barely warming up the place. I did hang up clothes on the clothes line and it would get dry around the noon hour. Meantime, the chicken production line would start in the morning after they had their fill of cracked corn. The red cardinals would be playing hide and seek in the chicken yard. Some of the chickens would not stay in the chicken pen. One would get in back of the horse tack room around the tools to lay her egg. I had placed some hay in the area the time before and she pecked at me for moving some more hay in her area. This time around she was trying to sleep there at night, so I tossed her back into the chicken pen where she could join her chicken buddies and sleep in the chicken house. The few others that stay out including the rooster perch in the tree behind the tack house. It seems they are well protected. You really don't see them unless you are up close. Plus, the rooster crows perched from a tree limb at four in the morning. The turkey named Hillary has been met with caution by the people I talk with over at the beach. I told the receptionist at the local doctor's office and her response was "Does she bite?" My response back was "no she just loves to eat." The receptionist at Quest (where I get my blood test done) laughed at her name being Hillary. She said " I need a Bill to go with Hillary." I told her I would suggest it to my sister Glendon. It is suppose to get cool again within the next couple of days. Glendon will be handling the weather on her own as well as spending the weekend working as a ranch hand at the University Vet School. Glendon has a strong drive and she will accomplish what task that needs to be done.
