Chicken dinner this evening
Mom and I went to a chicken dinner held at the Coronado Methodist Church for the group Family Promise. This group helps homeless families find jobs and get into homes where they can be productive. The guy sitting across from mom and I named Richard burned his throat on the baked beans. He had a hard time eating the rest of his dinner and all he wanted to do was complain about how hot the meal was. He did get the sympathy from the females at the table including me, but he didn't seem to want to fix the problem by asking for some ice to cool down his throat. He did seem like a nice guy and his wife seemed nice also. Mom and I also encountered a friend from Oakland, Florida. She moved to Edge water and it was a rare occasion to see her. My mom got to speak with her more than I did, but at least we did get to see each other. The beach seemed to be filled full of people all day long. We couldn't find a parking spot anyplace near the shoreline. The park on the other side of the draw bridge was the only place where space was available. I could sit and take pictures of small boats and the New Smyrna Beach Taxi. I also got to take pictures of pelicans as they zoomed on by in formation down one way and back the other. They seemed to ride the wind currents and would occasionally dive in the water for a fish. Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, the pelican arose from the water with the most ungraceful poses. The feet flop, the wings full of water rising to a higher level of areodynamic splendor. The wing spreads out to annouce a wideness which says "I encompass everything around me." The turns are like a game of tag where one pelican would follow another. It is very rare they would break the cycle of a set pattern. As usual, I appreciate Pauline our neighbor for thinking about us. It was kind of her to invite mom and I. I enjoyed the dinner very much.

Coronado Methodist Church. Church dinners are nice. The food is usually quite good and prepared on the premesis by volunteer members of the church. It is a nice time to socialize and catch up on all of the gossip. I have only been to one church dinner in my life and it was at a Baptist church. Although I knew only a few of the people there, the people seemed to all know each other. There must have been between fifty and a hundred people. A large gathering. I didn't know that the Methodists did the church dinners also. My whole family is Methodist. I am the only Catholic. My parents were non-practicing Methodists. It is good that you and your mom had a good time. Lew
