Passing Events

I have so enjoyed my crushed ice from the front door of my refrigerator. My sister doesn't have crushed ice on her refrigerator door. Her ice box doesn't even make ice cubes anymore. She uses ice trays to make the ice she wants. Do you remember the days when to get crushed ice you had to use a metal device that looked like an over sized nut cracker? This kind of reminds me of how to get a sugar free Slurpee. One, you use Diet Pepsi or two regular water with crushed ice. I use the water with the crushed ice every night before going to bed. The only problem is when I accidentally knock the glass over and cause a big mess. It is sad to here when someone you knew passes away. Mark Parker was a classmate of mine from High School. He was a year younger and we shared the same High School Choir director. I remember Mark from the State Choir Competition. He was a pretty good Bass singer and seemed like a pretty nice guy for someone who was pretty big looking. He looked like a football player. He later turned out to be a Orange County Corrections Officer who was paralyzed in the line of duty. Mark's death seems too soon. He seemed to live life to the fullest no mater what his situation was. Last night for dinner, mom got us a steak sub from subway. I enjoyed it very much. Today will be a chicken dish done in the crock pot.

Boy, that shrimp boat looks to be so close to shore. Sort of reminds me of a very old song with the lyrics "shrimp boats a'comin, there'll be....." and I don't remember the rest of it. I wonder if the workers on the boat get to take some of the big shrimp home and butterfly them and make butterfly coconut shrimp. The butterfly coconut shrimp at Red Lobster is really good.
I like slurpees and icees in the heat of summer. They really cool me off. When I worked at Disney I would stop off at the first gas station at the end of the day and get an icee to cool me off. I would drink it on the drive home. I considered it a real treat. We got an electric ice crusher and I will sometimes use it at home during the hot summer months but it uses a lot of ice. We put bottled water in the refrigerator and let it freeze to take in the car when we go out. It melts slowly giving us ice water to drink the whole time that we are gone. And the ice cube trays. You young-ens have it made with ice cube trays. They are plastic and with a twist the ice cubes pop right out. But your mom and I will remember the old fashioned metal trays with the metal dividers. You really had to work at getting ice for a cool drink. No twistee, twistee and presto there is your ice back then. It took a lot of banging and colorful expletives to get the ice out of the trays in those days. That is if you could get the tray out at all. Many times it would be frozen stuck to the bottom of the freezer or enveloped in ice from the sidewall of the freezer (no automatic defrosting back then).
It's always sad to see someones life cut short. Especially when it is too soon and they have not had the opportunity to live a full life. There is an old expression that goes "The good die young". This was probably the case with your friend. But in a sense he will live on in the memories of those who knew him.
You have a good day. I have to go to the eye doctor this morning for an eye exam. Take care. Lew
