Friday at home

I am thinking " What day is this?" I look at the computer clock and it says Friday September 12 ,2008. Wow, what an instant surprise. I made it through another week without a hurricane and life is pretty normal. I don't live next to the Anthonys so the only crazy stuff I see is on television. The Nancy Grace show devotes a whole hour on the Casey/Caylee story. She brings in many important guest like high profile lawyers who argue the rights of Casey, but offer no solutions to finding Caylee. I got a good doze of reality yesterday when shopping at Publix and looking at the meat prices. The Sirloins were in the nine to ten dollar range. The Porterhouse small steaks were in the fourteen to sixteen dollar range. The New York strip steaks were in the nine to ten dollar range. Plus the size of the meats were really trimmed down. It was the same way with the chicken. I saw whole cut up chicken for eight to nine dollars. Maybe, part of a chicken around four dollars. This might be inflation of the times, but I remember when prices were more reasonable. I could actually afford a whole chicken and maybe a little extra. The income of people is not equal to the current cost of living. The cost of current living outweighs the income thus giving people like me less variety to choose.
The picture is a blackened heart of palm being dragged into the shoreline by the guys in the picture.

You are right on the inflation of prices. Mary and I went to Denny's last night to try their new skillet breakfast. They actually bring the meal to you in a very hot skillet. As I understand they had this in the past but discontinued it. Now they are bringing it back again. We had discount coupons which really helps. It brought the price of the meals plus drinks from almost $ 18 to $11 and change. A great price break. We use coupons a lot. It helps. Mary even gets some online. The waitress noticed the pins that Mary and I were wearing on our collars. They were the "Tough to be a bug" pins from Animal Kingdom at Disney. That was the attraction that I use to work in. We chatted with the waitress for a bit and she said that she would like to work at Disney a couple of days a week. I told her where the casting (employment) office was located. After she left I told Mary that I wish that there was someway for me to be able to work down there again but the high price of gas has eliminated that since it is 50 miles round trip. The gas was a problem when I worked there before. It seemed that most of my money was going for gas. With today's gas prices, it just isn't practical driving down there on a daily basis. So I can sympathize with you on the high food prices. We shop occassionally at Publix but their prices are too high. We usually shop at Walmart or discount markets. That seems to help. Plus Mary doesn't throw any food away. If there is something that we don't finish ay mealtime then it either gets put into the refrigerator for the next day or frozen in the freezer for later in the week. Take care and have a good day.
