Just passing through

This is a picture of a turtle that passes through our front yard almost everyday. The turtle isn't really a social creature. He kind of likes to keep to himself. However, he does munch on the dollar weed which is good for mom and I. I do remember trying to make pets out of turtles when I was younger. It was never with any luck. They were always more problems than what they were worth. A turtle in the box is an unhappy turtle and one that will not be a good pet. They are best enjoyed as a free reptile. Today it is back to the store to restock on what we used up in the kitchen. Last night was cold tuna and seashell macaroni with cut up onion and spiced with lemon, green goddess salad dressing and mayonnaise. Plus, we had some cream of mushroom soup as a side dish.

I have always been fascinated with turtles. My brothers and me used to go look for them in the nearby creeks and bring them home to have turtle races.
Sure enough they all found their way back into the 'wild'. I even tried putting one in my backyard that was fenced in to see if he would hang around but I never saw him or her after that first day I set them in the yard.

Green Goddess salad dressing. I remember when that first came out. It was all the rage. I was working in x-ray at St. Joesph's Hospital, Phoenix, when one of my fellow technicians who worked nights in a steak house told me about it. She and everyone else said that I had to try it. I think it was the green color that helped to make it popular. I like it but being a traditionalist I still prefer catalina or thousand island. I usually go for the cream type salad dressing although I like the house Italian salad dressing at the Olive Garden. Of course the garlic breadsticks there are pretty good also and highlight the salad. Gotta go. Time for Mary and I to do our on-line crossword puzzle. Lew

We also had seashell shaped macaroni for lunch. Mary made it with ranch dressing and bacon bits. It was good and it was a cold dish on a hot day. We also had Italian bread which had lots of poppy seeds stuck to the top of it. We had a turtle in the backyard who made a tunnel into the ground but unfortunatley he or she disappeared right after hurricane Charley. I did get a a very small turtle from a pet store in Miami when I use to have a large aquarium in the living room. I put a turtle raft onto the side of the tank so that he could get out of the water when he wanted to so his shell could dry out. The turtle was very happy there because he lots of area to swim around in and lots of fish food to eat which he did on a grand scale. All that fish food made him grow rapidly and after about a year my aquarium broke while I was tipping it to clean it. So I released the turtle but I don't remember where. For all that I did for the turtle, it would bite me if I got my fingers anywhere near his mouth. Maintaining a large fish aquarium is a real pain also. If I wasn't changing the angel hair in the bubbler filter than I was scraping green algae off the side of the glass. I didn't replace the broken aquarium. Have you tried putting out lettuce for the turtle? Is this the one that had a hole in the ground next to your neighbors palm tree? We would put out lettuce for the turtle in the backyard and he would eat it. Lettuce probably tasted better than grass. Have a nice evening. Lew

How did blueherun get the panda picture into the comments section? I haven't been able to do that yet. Lew
