Happy Valentine's Day
The ocean last evening was a place of reflection. There were seagulls begging for food and a few people on the shoreline. I had a guy standing close by where I was taking pictures spending a moment of gazing time to reflect. I could see he was dressed with nice work shoes that had a nice shine. His work clothes were dressy, but casual. I figured him to be some sort of business boss who had a nice family waiting for him at home. I figured he was just taking a couple minutes out of his day to unwind by gazing out into the open water and let his thoughts drift away. Mom and I had just finished our dinner of steak, mashed potatoes and some mixed cooked veg tables. Mom made some tapioca before we left on our evening journey. When we finally got home we had tapioca and strawberries. This is a picture of the South bridge right at sunset.

Happy Valentine's Day to you and your mom. The picture came out nice because of the change of colors of the sky as it goes from the horizon upward. To the left of the bridge, the horizon has a deep red color and then it continues to lighten until at the top of the picture it becomes a yellow color. That deep red color reminded me of the sunsets that we would get in Arizona. As for the guy dressed in the business suit, it reminds me of the successful chemist who one day decided that he had enough of the rat race, quit his high paying job, sold everything he owned including the house, moved to Ft. Myers, bought a charter fishing boat, took tourists deep sea fishing and loved every minute of it. Maybe your friend was having wishful thoughts back to his carefree surfing days and wished that he had become a professional surfer. A lot of highly imaginative possibilities to speculate about which is all part of people watching. The movie Lifeguard with Sam Elliott has this theme to it.
Happy Valentine's Day to you and your mom. Is today the day that you and your mom go to The Breakers for a hamburger meal? Mary and I are going to Chili's for lunch today. I got her a gift card for Chili's as part of her valentine's day present. I also got her a solid gold chain which she is wearing with her gold scapular medal on it. Mary got me a pocket watch. I have a wrist watch but I don't wear it because the metal expandiing strap keeps snagging and plucking the hairs on my arm. I use to always use Twist O'Flex brand of watch bands and they never snagged the arm hairs. But I can't find that brand anymore and so I stopped wearing the wrist watches. Now I can just carry the watch in my pocket. It is battery operated and so it is lightweight. She also got me a glass plaque with a romantic poem on it. Now about cherry pie. I want to say something about cherry pie, after all the color of Valentine's day is red and cherry pie is read and so it is an appropriate topic. Do you like my farfetched reasoning? Mary got a cherry pie while at the bread store. We had our first piece and we both noticed that there were hardly any cherries in it. Only a cherry here and a cherry there. Practically none. Most of the filling was red cherry flavored gelatin. I can't complain though because the price was so good. And here is the really amazing part, it tastes really good. So what if there aren't many cherries in the pie so long as it tastes good. When I lived in Miami there was a restaurant review in the Sunday paper of a lunch counter in a drugstore called Allen's Drugstore. They talked how this drugstore had been in the same location for many, many years which it had. The review also raved about the 50's style lunch counter. Since it was near where I lived I thought that I would give it a try. I sat at the lunch counter which was 50's style and ordered a pice of apple pie and a soda. I started eating the slice of apple pie when I noticed that there weren't any apples. I lifted up the top crust with my fork to take a peek and sure enough, not a single piece of apple. Just apple flavored gelatin. Once again, it tasted good but I was disappointed. Have you ever run into a similar situation, pie with just a gelatin filling? Enjoy the day and the hamburger. Lew
