Saturday road travel

Yesterday, I got to eat lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken in New Smyrna Beach. I haven't been there for a long time. I ordered two pieces of dark crispy chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Plus, a biscuit and baked beans. I drank unsweetened tea with sweet and low in it. I enjoyed the food and I had some quiet time before going on my adventure to Wal-mart to do some Christmas shopping. I wasn't sure what I would encounter in the way of mingling with people at Wal-mart. I got a real good parking spot close to the store when I arrived. Kentucky Fried Chicken was next door so I walked over to have some lunch. After lunch, it was the big plunge into a sea of customers and trying to find the bargains they were advertising which would make good Christmas presents. There is a lot of going up and down the aisles in Wal-mart looking at every little piece of clothing and mapping the layout of the store.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is what I call comfort food. I know that it is bad for me but it tastes so good. And it is all in the seasoning because after all chicken is chicken and it is the different seasonings that make some chicken good and some chicken great. Like Popeye’s chicken is a little spicy hot. When we go to Popeye’s I get the mild chicken. Once when I went to the west coast of Florida for a meeting some of my friends told me excitedly that there was a free buffet in the bar at the hotel. I said that surely it can’t be free but they absolutely assured me that it was. All that you had to do was buy a drink and you could eat for free. So at around 6:00 pm (happy hour) I met my friends at the bar as agreed. And to my surprise they were right, free buffet with the purchase of a drink. And so much food, and what a varied selection: chicken wings, small barbeque ribs, etc. My eyes went immediately to the chicken wings. I ordered a beer as my token drink, grabbed a small dish, and of I went to the buffet offerings. I felt guilty that all of this food was free just for the purchase of a beer. I decided to try the chicken wings first. My first bite and my mouth was on fire. I had to gulp some of the beer to try and put out the fire. Another bite and another gulp of beer to help put out the fire. I decided to move onto the small ribs. Same thing, three alarm fire. I decided to give up and just have some popcorn, there was no way that could be hot. It wasn’t hot, it was incredibly salty beyond all imagination. Now I began to understand how it was that they had free food, you couldn’t possibly eat it without drinking large amounts of drinks to put out the fire. Another one of life’s little lessons was learned that day, “When something seems too good to be true, it usually is”.
Have a cool day and get your last minute shopping day. Today is the last day since you will be leaving for Williston tomorrow. Be sure to take some doggie treats for seargent and he will be your friend for life. Lew
