Comfort foods
Today dinner was Chinese food with won ton soup. I got a big batch of chicken with Chinese vegetables. I think Chinese food is comfort food. When I eat won ton soup, it is like eating mom's chicken noodle soup. I had sugar free almond cookies for dessert. Tomorrow dinner will be beef stew. I have some buttermilk biscuits which will go good with melted canola margarine. Mom also likes to put jelly on top of the biscuit. It is almost hot enough for ice cream. There is a variety of sugar free chocolate ice cream from Breyers that I though was very good. I can not think in terms of hot chocolate when the weather has turned warm.

Campbell's soups has a fairly decent Won Ton soup in a can. But I always like the egg drop soup best when I eat in a chinese restaurant. When I was young and didn't feel well, my mom would make me poached eggs on toast which I absolutely loved. The yolk would be soft and the yolk would run all over the toast. Absolutely delicious. But these were the days before Teflon, when things would stick to frying pans and poached egg yolks would sometimes stick to the bottom of the pot. Then the yolk would break when trying to take the egg out of the pot of water and the yolk would flow throughout the water. To try and keep this from happening, my mom wouldn't put the eggs into the pot of water until the water was at a rapid boil. The egg whites would be scattered all through the water but the egg yolks would be intact. My mom would try to get as much of the whites out as she could, but what was left in the pan looked like egg drop soup. My mom always took good care of me when I was sick with a cold or flu. She was a Dr. Mom. Thanks for the tip on the sugar free ice cream. I will have to check it out. Take care. Lew
